Eastreet 4 – Open Call

Eastreet is not yet another street photography contest. For the fourth time we invite you to participate in creating an ever-evolving portrait of an entire region – Eastern Europe. Photographers from all around the world can submit their images free of charge. The Open Call ends on 23 July.

Eastreet is one of the biggest initiatives promoting photographs from (broadly defined) Eastern Europe. Almost 20.000 photos were submitted to the previous editions. So far, we’ve selected and presented close to 300 images by photographers from 22 countries. Workshopx has been supporting Eastreet from the beginning.

The fourth edition will have its premiere on 20th October 2017 in the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures Lublin, Poland. Once more we would like to have a closer look at the human presence within the public spaces of the region, through photographs documenting unique moments, ideas and symbols. We are looking for images which can help us to visually describe Eastern Europe, present its current state and unique qualities, but also photos that will encourage us to look at it beyond stereotypes, borders and differences. Submitted photographs should not be a series, but individual, single images open to interpretation.

The result will be a photography exhibition and print publication. The photographs will be selected by a group of curators, including workshopx founders and editors Aleksander Bochenek and Grzegorz Ostręga.

Each selected photographer will receive a free copy of the book by post, soon after the exhibition opens. The publication will be also distributed during the opening, as well as through selected group of international institutions, galleries and curators.

The exhibition will be traveling after the initial show in Lublin. The previous editions have been presented at the Organ Vida Festival in Croatia, Kolga Festival in Georgia, Odessa/Batumi Photo Days, were on show in France, Belgium, Thailand and, as a slideshow, at the Angkor Photo Festival in Cambodia. So far approximately 20.000 people have visited Eastreet exhibition in total. We would like to reach as wide audience as possible to promote the photography and photographers from Eastern Europe and present their work to galleries, curators, festivals and other institutions.
